A shared understanding of workplace safety
When colleagues work in English, shared terms for responsibilities, risks and preventive measures help discussions. BAM Online English connects that common language with Swedish work environment management.
Managers and safety representatives can use the course as a starting point for cooperation and follow-up at their workplace.
About BAM Online English
BAM Online English is a two-day, instructor-led work environment course delivered live via Microsoft Teams. BAM stands for the Swedish term Bättre arbetsmiljö, meaning Better Work Environment. The course gives English-speaking managers, safety representatives and employees a foundation for working with occupational health and safety in Sweden.
You join the trainer and other participants on scheduled dates. Teaching and discussions are in English, while the subject is Swedish work environment responsibilities and working methods. You can ask questions and relate the content to situations in your organisation.
Purpose and learning objectives
The aim is to support cooperation between employers, managers, safety representatives and employees. You learn how work environment management can become part of everyday operations and how to connect responsibilities with practical preventive work.
After the training, you should be able to:
- Cooperate on work environment issues and recognise different roles.
- Investigate working conditions and identify risks of accidents and ill health.
- Contribute to risk assessments, preventive measures and follow-up.
- Understand how a good work environment supports business development.
- Find information and support for continuing work environment management.
BAM Online English course content
- Swedish work environment rules, roles and responsibilities.
- Cooperation between employers, safety representatives and employees.
- Systematic work environment management, known as SAM in Swedish.
- Organisational and social work environment, known as OSA.
- Investigation, risk assessment, action and follow-up.
- Physical workplace risks, ergonomics and preventive working methods.
- Safety culture, participation and communication.
Applying SAM and OSA at work
The course introduces the cycle of investigating working conditions, assessing risks, taking action and checking the results. Workload, working hours and cooperation also need attention. A shared approach helps managers and employees discuss both physical risks and organisational factors.
For example, a team may face repeated time pressure. In an exercise, participants can discuss the demands, available resources and possible preventive measures. They can then consider who needs to make decisions and how to follow up. The purpose is to connect the method to workplace situations, rather than leave it as a set of definitions.
For further reading, our knowledge bank explains systematic work environment management and work environment responsibilities. These supporting articles are in Swedish.
Who should attend?
BAM Online English is suitable for managers, supervisors, safety representatives and employees with work environment tasks. HR and HSE professionals can also benefit from a common foundation in the Swedish system. The live online format allows colleagues in different locations to attend the same course.
It is particularly useful in organisations in Sweden where English is the shared working language. Participants can develop common terms for discussing risk assessment, responsibilities and prevention with their colleagues.
Prerequisites
No previous work environment training is required. You need to understand teaching and discussions in English. Bring questions from your workplace if you wish, while avoiding sensitive personal information about colleagues.
Live course format and duration
The training lasts two days and takes place live via Teams on scheduled course dates. The programme combines presentations, exercises, questions and discussion with the trainer and other participants. Set aside both days and arrange a quiet place where you can take part. Check the booking information and invitation for the dates and session times.
The course is led by BAM tutors trained by Prevent. The trainer helps connect Swedish work environment concepts with practical work. If several colleagues need training together, contact us about company-specific training.
Equipment for joining via Teams
Use a computer with a stable internet connection, a camera and a microphone. A headset or headphones can make it easier to hear and contribute. Check that Teams works on the equipment you will use before the course starts. Make sure you can participate in the discussions and exercises.
Price, course material and certificate
The price is SEK 9,000 excluding VAT per person. Digital course material and a certificate after successfully completing the training are included. We also offer registration of the training in the ID06 Competence Database. Contact us for details about registration. The linked ID06 information is in Swedish.
AFA support for training
Eligible employers can apply for financial support. Eligibility and the amount depend on the participant’s role and whether the training is basic training or a refresher. Basic training for a new safety representative is treated differently from a manager’s training. Check Afa Försäkring’s current conditions before applying. Support is not guaranteed; the official guidance is in Swedish.
Swedish rules and the employer’s responsibility
The course addresses systematic work environment management in relation to AFS 2023:1 and organisational and social factors under Chapter 2 of AFS 2023:2. The linked official provisions are in Swedish. Training supports knowledge and working methods; employers still need to ensure that knowledge and practical conditions match the tasks and risks in their organisation.
