A shared understanding of the work environment in Sweden

Workload, communication and working hours shape everyday working life. Teams that work in English also need a shared language for discussing work environment issues.

This course connects organisational and social work environment issues with systematic work environment management in a Swedish context.

About the OSA course

OSA is the Swedish abbreviation for organisatorisk och social arbetsmiljö, or organisational and social work environment. This one-day course from AB Kompetensutveckla i Sundsvall is delivered live in English via Microsoft Teams.

The course focuses on three areas:

  • Unhealthy workload.
  • Workplace victimisation.
  • Working hours and opportunities for recovery.

Workload

Explore how tasks, expectations and resources affect everyday working life. Discuss warning signs, priorities and ways to identify workload concerns early.

Workplace victimisation

Learn about harmful behaviour at work, how concerns can be recognised, and how clear procedures and support contribute to prevention.

Working hours and recovery

Examine how schedules, long working days and expectations of availability can affect recovery. Discussions help you identify issues to address in your own workplace.

What will you take away?

The aim is to develop knowledge and practical approaches for examining organisational and social conditions, assessing risks and planning preventive measures. You will also explore how OSA forms part of systematic work environment management, known as SAM in Sweden.

Course content

  • Organisational and social aspects of the work environment.
  • Workload, workplace victimisation and working hours.
  • Systematic work environment management and cooperation.
  • Swedish work environment rules relevant to OSA, including AFS 2023:2.
  • Preventive procedures, instructions and working practices.
  • Warning signs of stress and workplace risk factors.
  • Methods for examining working conditions and discussing risks.
  • Turning findings into measures that can be followed up.

Who is the course for?

Managers, supervisors, employer representatives, HR professionals and safety representatives working in organisations in Sweden who want to attend training in English.

If you book training for others, the course is suitable for English-speaking colleagues and international teams who need to understand Swedish work environment issues. Managers and safety representatives can attend together to develop a shared knowledge base while recognising their different roles.

OSA and AFS 2023:2

Chapter 2 of AFS 2023:2 addresses organisational and social work environment. Employers must ensure that managers and supervisors know how to prevent and manage unhealthy workload and workplace victimisation, and have the conditions needed to put that knowledge into practice.

Training can support this work. A course certificate does not replace the employer's ongoing responsibilities, workplace risk assessments or preventive measures.
